PR1ME Retreat

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:23-25

I love this passage for its powerful application regarding Christian community. We know that the author of Hebrews wrote to these struggling Christians to remind them of their faith in the Person and in the Work of Christ. But, the writer does not stop there. He gives another important ingredient when it comes to persevering in our faith. We need to be a part of a biblical community.

One writer talks about Authentic community this way.

“Authentic community springs from each member's willingness to spend time alone with God. When we recognize in our solitude that our belovedness is grounded in God, we are not dependent on others to guarantee our truth or our value as persons. Rather, we become free to give and receive love in response to need rather than in search of acceptance and affirmation.”

There are always two crucial aspects to building and being in a biblical community. It starts with our individual relationships with God. That is most important. Without our submission to God, we become selfish and self-centered in our approach to life. And sadly, that self-centered attitude adversely affects our community in the church.

This year’s PR1ME Retreat theme is “COMMUN1TY.” We want to learn how to become a biblical community within our church. We will take time to examine our relationship with God. And, we will learn what it means to be a Christ-Centered Community.

I really hope to see all of you there! And let's do life together!

Blessings,
Pastor David Kim

Good post! Hopefully I can make it this year. I always hear Living Hope vets say that the church has grown so fast. All the more important to focus on community building as the church continues to grow.
